Did you miss the Provider Forums in May? Join us in August!

August 13, 2024; 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

We're excited to invite you to the upcoming Provider Forum in August! This will be your chance to engage in an essential data collection process where your active participation and feedback are crucial. If you could not attend the forums in May, don't miss this opportunity to contribute. We want to hear from you!

Overview and Purpose

The NCCC is convening its final Virtual Regional Service Provider Forum for all five geographic areas covered by OPWDD’s Regional Offices. This is an activity conducted by the Advancing Cultural and Linguistic Competence, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: OPWDD-Georgetown University NCCC Partnership for Systems Change.

The Provider Forum is fully endorsed by OPWDD. The data collected will be analyzed and compiled into a report that:

  • Describes the overall system capacity for cultural and linguistic competence.
  • Offers recommendations to strengthen cultural and linguistic competence at multiple levels within service provider organizations, including:
    • Policy
    • Administration
    • Supports, services, and practices
    • Persons who experience IDD and their families
    • Community engagement

This forum is structured to gather information from service providers, and should not be considered as a professional development activity. It is designed to:

  • Define cultural competence, linguistic competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Gauge the extent to which these principles are implemented among New York’s network of IDD service providers.
  • Elicit input on the successes and challenges of implementing policies and practices that support cultural competence, linguistic competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion within their respective organizations.

The NCCC will disseminate the full report and adapted versions in the form of a clear/plain language executive summary in multiple languages, as required by the New York State Language Access law. OPWDD will use the results to continue its system change efforts in collaboration with key constituencies across the state.

Your active engagement is welcomed and essential to this aspect of the systems change project.
